Dave Parley, who creates the beats and synth sounds for the acclaimed electronic duo Prayers and is the driving force behind Cholo Goth Nights held across the Southwest US and Mexico, was born and raised in Tijuana, where he grew up skateboarding and listening to punk rock, Goth, and New Wave. He moved to San Diego to get more deeply involved in playing drums and DJing, and though he played in various bands, when he saw Leafar Seyer singing with the art band Vampire, he knew and Seyer would make the perfect combination. After Vampire’s final gig, Parley and Seyer spent three days writing and recording songs that would become their first album, SD Killwave, and on the third night, they played as Prayers, the name that came to Parley in a dream. Prayers gigged in non-stop in San Diego, then expanded to Los Angeles where their driving beats and intense, poetic lyrics combined with strong stage presence attracted media and industry attention, while their self-produced videos rapidly grew in views. Prayers has consistently sold out shows where they headline, have played numerous festivals including Coachella, and toured arenas with A Perfect Circle.

After two self-released albums, SD Killwave and Gothic Summer, Prayers released Young Gods, produced by Travis Barker (Blink 182) on Barker’s label and in 2017, Baptism of Thieves on their current label, BMG.

While working in Prayers, Parley continued to DJ with his close friend DJ Josexxx as The Latin Lovers, and then developed Cholo Goth Night, which includes sets of music by Prayers, remixes of underground favorites, and Parley’s own music. Cholo Goth Night is a regular monthly event at The Lash Social Club in Los Angeles, and has expanded to Phoenix, Las Vegas, Tijuana and most recently to Mexico City, where Parley’s gigs sold out.

In addition to Prayers and DJing, Parley gives free demonstrations on DJing, synth playing, and drumming to children and teens in both English and Spanish in conjunction with his sponsors Akai MPC, Native Instruments, Novation, and Haram Drums. His DJ setup includes Pioneer Nexus CDJs and Pioneers Nexus mixers.
